Max is a Calgary born drummer, pianist and teacher who has been living in Vancouver since 2013, playing music around town and working towards a bachelors degree in Jazz Ed at Capilano University.

In Calgary he studied with drumset wizard Jim Johnston and rudimental master Gerry Hemsley.

At Capilano, Max has been able to study with great musicians and people such as local jazz drum heroes Craig Scott, Dylan Vanderschyff, and pianist Lorne Kellett.

Although Max has experience playing in many styles and contexts, from country to metal to hip hop, since his move to Vancouver Max’s focus has been on jazz, and all the wonderful music the term encompasses.

Max can be heard playing regularly around the city with the likes of the Jimmy Fraser trio, often featuring the eminent saxophonist John Gross. Max also leads a piano trio, with his interpretations of jazz tunes, as well as his own original music.

Introducing Devon Wells for Guitar, Banjo & Mandolin Wed, 16 Aug 2017 22:27:11 +0000 Continue reading ]]> Crossroads Guitar is delighted to introduce our latest instructor, Devon Wells.

​Devon is a banjo player/ multi-instrumentalist based out of Vancouver, B.C. Canada. Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Devon moved to Vancouver after completing an undergraduate music degree at York University (Toronto) and has since kept busy as a performer, composer and instructor. He is a founding member of the Tishomingo String Band and has played with a wide variety of local artists on recordings and in performance including a stint touring North America as banjoist for The Clumsy Lovers and appearances on television and in film.

In 2015 Devon recorded the instrumental solo album ‘The Waxing Moon’ featuring 9 original compositions and the playing of John Reishman on mandolin, Chris Russell on guitar, Russell Sholberg on bass and Trent Freeman on violin.

Devon will be teaching guitar, banjo and mandolin.

Saying Goodbye to Tim Porter Mon, 26 Sep 2016 23:32:12 +0000 Continue reading ]]> Sadly we are having to say goodbye to Tim Porter as a teacher/instructor at Crossroads Guitar & Drums this week.

As a rock musician, Tim has performed regularly with the popular Vancouver band Brickhouse. He has also worked with a diverse array of other performers including The Canadian Tenors, Long John Baldry, The Powder Blues Band, John Lee Sanders, Jim Byrnes, Diane Lines and many others.  Tim is a highly respected musician who has been performing in the field for over 25 years.

He is well versed in all styles of music including jazz, blues, pop, rock and country and is a seasoned session player with countless recording credits to his name. and for the past decade, he has been teaching guitar, developing strong relations with students of all ages, from novice to the advanced.

We will miss Tim here at Crossroads Guitar & Drums and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

THE HEELS NEW COUNTRY TRIO LIVE ON SAT JUNE 27TH Fri, 26 Jun 2015 07:58:46 +0000 Continue reading ]]> The Heels are Brittni & Georgia Dominelli & Kyla Rawlins a country music trio from North Vancouver, BC.

Sisters Brittni & Georgia grew up in a musical family and started singing & performing at a young age with their fathers band (The Tony Dominelli Band) on Bowen Island. Kyla is trained in Classical, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Rock & Pop and has been singing and performing her entire life. They all play their own instruments.

The trio came together in the winter of 2014 and have quickly progressed to writing, recording and performing original music. They are currently in the studio recording their new single “Tombstone” Co-Written with Dan Arnold (King & Cash) and produced by Geraldo Dominelli (Loverboy, Camille Miller).

Come on down to #CrossroadsGuitar on Saturday, June 27th during #GoldenSpikeDays to hear this great new group with their fresh take on #CountryMusic.
