Max Huberdeau is our new instructor for drums and percussion.
Max is a Calgary born drummer, pianist and teacher who has been living in Vancouver since 2013, playing music around town and working towards a bachelors degree in Jazz Ed at Capilano University.
In Calgary he studied with drumset wizard Jim Johnston and rudimental master Gerry Hemsley.
At Capilano, Max has been able to study with great musicians and people such as local jazz drum heroes Craig Scott, Dylan Vanderschyff, and pianist Lorne Kellett.
Although Max has experience playing in many styles and contexts, from country to metal to hip hop, since his move to Vancouver Max’s focus has been on jazz, and all the wonderful music the term encompasses.
Max can be heard playing regularly around the city with the likes of the Jimmy Fraser trio, often featuring the eminent saxophonist John Gross. Max also leads a piano trio, with his interpretations of jazz tunes, as well as his own original music.
