VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 R.E.V.O. - Opening Cinematic

It’s been a long time since Sega has touched the Virtua Fighter franchise. While players aren’t getting a new entry in the fighting game franchise (although maybe they should), the series is making a small comeback on Steam this winter.

Sega made an announcement on X Friday thatVirtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O,an upgraded version of the 3D fighter Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown, is now available to wishlist on Steam. More details will be shared at a later date, but for now, we know that it’ll be playable in 4K resolution and up to 60 frames per second, will have gameplay balance tweaks, upgraded visuals, and, best of all for fighting game fans, rollback netcode, so there won’t be any latency regardless of your platform. It’ll also feature new online modes that’ll allow up to 16 players to compete.

Virtua Fighter is one of those somewhat forgotten arcade fighting game franchises, not getting as much love as Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat. There were five main entries, and the last one, Virtua Fighter 5, came out in 2006. It’s been re-released a few times since then, withVirtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdownlaunching in 2021 and bringing new music and updated graphics to PlayStation 4. That does mean you can still playVirtua Fighter 5if you have a PlayStation Network account, and it’s still one of the best fighting games for the PS5. R.E.V.O is sort of a PC port of this version, but with more modern features.

Sega isn’t giving up onUltimate Showdown though. Gematsu reports that a 2.0 balance update is coming toUltimate Showdown when R.E.V.O releases.

If that’s still not enough for Virtua Fighter fans, this is a good reminder that there’s a nearly complete version ofVirtua Fighter 5 insideYakuza: Like a Dragon andYakuza 6. A version of Virtua Fighter 2 is also available on Steam for just $1.

There’s a horrific beauty in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl’s bugs

Virtua Fighter 5 is returning for the first time in 18 years, sort of | Digital Trends (4)

I was still getting my bearings in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl as I searched an abandoned building in the dead of night. Using my pitifully dim flashlight to scan the faded walls and floors, I hit a dead end and turned to retrace my steps back outside and onto the critical path. That's when I saw something curious: A box was falling from nowhere in particular to the ground. I noted that the room was littered with boxes and other refuse upon entering, but they were all scattered on the floor. Seeing one falling for apparently no reason startled me, but I calmed myself thinking it was a simple physics bug that crops up fairly often in giant open-world games such as this. Stalker 2 already had a reputation for being buggy, after all.

Not five minutes later my expectations flipped on their head when I watched a can lift itself off a table, hover for just a moment as if to mock my previous assumption, and then hurl itself at me and knock out a chunk of my health. That was not a bug despite it appearing exactly like one I had encountered in many games prior. This was an invisible enemy known as a Poltergeist whose invisible nature and method of attack mimicked what a typical bug looked like. Suddenly, I had to question my instincts whenever I came across something unexplainable. I couldn't take anything for granted and that distrust in myself added a new layer of horror.
